Don had an amazing influence upon everyone who knew him. He grew up in Cleburne where he was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball. Yet, he was more than an athlete; he was a leader on and off of the field. Don felt honored to have played football at The University of Texas and had "orange blood". The friends from his hometown were his friends forever. At Stephen F. Austin University, he met Peggy, his wife of 53 years. They were opposites in personality, but the bond of love God created between them resulted in a life filled with a joy which overcame their struggles. Don was a devoted and involved dad, participating in the team sports of his two sons, Todd and Eric, as a coach, mentor and supporter. But, his greatest gift to them was the Christian example he lived day in and day out. However, there were definitely four favorites among the people he loved. He was known as "Bop" to his grandchildren, Taylor, Alex, Ashlynne and Easton. Bop loved them from the inside out, and they adored him. The hours and hours of quality time he spent with them has helped to mold their lives and will continue to guide them. Don was an electrician, owner of Elrod Electric, and worked at Dealer's Electric. He was known for his work ethic, honesty, and set an example by working as hard as his employees. Because of his love for others, Don donated his body to University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Don Elrod was an exceptional person who was filled with the Spirit of the Lord, love, patience, kindness, honesty, forgiveness, humility, and humor. On a scale of 1 to 10, he was most definitely a "10". Survivors: Don will always be loved and remembered by his wife, Peggy; son, Todd; son, Eric and wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Taylor and fiance, Kevin, Alex, Ashlynne and Easton; daughter-and-son-in-love, Pam and Christian McCoy; brother-in-law, Mike and wife, Lynn; nephews, Brad, Gary, Scott; niece, Shelby; and their families; plus countless friends. ARLINGTON -- Jennie Lee Dycus, 94, a woman of substance and faith, of grace and charm, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 2, 2016, at her home, with her son and several caregivers at her side. Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Fielder Church, 1323 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: East Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Dycus would be honored by memorials to the Arlington-based nonprofits The Porch Light Foundation, mariannebearddo.org, and Helping Restore Ability, hratexas.org. Dr. Beard and HRA both greatly elevated her quality of life. Jennie Lee Paschall graduated from Decatur Baptist College in 1938 and North Texas State Teachers College in Denton in 1940. She taught grades first through fourth at Red Willow School, out in the country six miles northwest of Chico, before becoming the business instructor at her alma mater, DBC. Later she substitute-taught in Fort Worth special education. She grew up in her beloved Bridgeport in Wise County, the daughter of Ed and Nellie Paschall and sister of Frank Paschall and Dennis Paschall. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1936. She and Roger Dycus of Seymour married April 2, 1944, in the parlor of the girls dorm at Dallas Baptist College. Four years later they had a son, John. To all of these elements in her life, her devotion never wavered. If it is possible to be born Baptist, then she was. Roger bought her a piano, hoping to hear the occasional "Memphis Blues," but she was more inclined to "In the Garden." And that was just fine. On April 27, 2001, she joined, referring to her age, "Club 80." For years she sang in the senior choir and taught Sunday school at Fielder Road Baptist Church, where she remained active with the Triple L seniors outreach. Previously, she taught Sunday school and played piano at Southwayside Baptist Church in Fort Worth. She, Roger and John moved to Arlington in 1976. She gave freely of her time and other resources to Helping Restore Ability. She was a grateful donor to Dallas Baptist College and to pretty much any organization that asked. If she met you, chances are she liked you. She answered the phone with a smile in her voice. She loved to laugh. She never complained. Her son called her a national treasure. He'd be surprised if anyone disagreed. Her husband, Roger, died in 1986. Survivors: Her son, John; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles “Chuck” A. Wills, Jr., a former TCU football standout who brought his lifelong passion for sports into North Texas schools as a devoted coach and teacher, died February 7, 2016 at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital of complications from metastatic melanoma. He was 42. Affectionately known as a gentle giant by those impressed by his imposing physical stature and warm personality, Chuck had a quick humor and genuine kindness that endeared him to many. As a senior at TCU in 1994, his fixture as the largest player in one of college football’s most dominant offensive lines helped the Horned Frogs win a share of the Southwest Conference Championship, the school’s first championship in 36 years. The experience propelled him to a career in coaching and instilled in him a great pride for his alma mater. Chuck was a faithful Christian, and a loving father and husband. Chuck is survived by his college-sweetheart and wife of 18 years, Zabette Wills and children, Colton Grant and Zoey Rose, of Arlington; parents Charles and Marlene Wills of New Whiteland, Indiana; siblings, John Wills and wife, Pam, of Celina, Tennessee, Kathleen Witcher and husband, John, of Franklin, Indiana, Shaleen Jones and husband, Jeff, of Bargersville, Indiana; niece, Jordan Jones, and nephew, Robert Cooney. A memorial service will be held at Fielder Church, at 2:00 pm on Saturday February 13th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Zabette Wills @ any EECU location, Acct #656636 benefitting Colton & Zoey Wills' College Fund. Bill pay contributions welcome. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple to celebrate Chuck and his TCU Spirit. Charles Alfred Wills, Jr., was born April 26, 1973, in Indianapolis, IN. He was the youngest of four children born to Charles and Marlene Wills. As a child, Chuck enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and rooting for the newly arrived Indianapolis Colts, both passions he would maintain throughout his life. He excelled at basketball and football. His abilities on the gridiron won him all-conference and all-state selections during high school and attracted the attention of college coaches from across the country. He graduated from Whiteland Community High School in 1991, and spent the next two years at Illinois Valley Community College where he was named an NJCAA All-American. He accepted a football scholarship to TCU in the spring of 1993. As a Horned Frog, Chuck quickly assumed a spot in the starting lineup for the 1993 season. His play as strong guard earned him offensive player of the game honors in the team’s biggest win of the season, an away game against rival Baylor. Coaches praised his knowledge of the game, natural strength, and quickness. His time at TCU coincided with a resurgence of interest in football on campus. During the 1994 season attendance soared as the team compiled big wins against Texas Tech and Kansas on route to claiming a five-way share of the Southwest Conference Championship and a berth in the Independence Bowl, TCU’s first bowl appearance since 1984. Chuck graduated from TCU in 1995 with a Bachelor’s in Physical Education and embarked on a coaching career. He held coaching and teaching positions at The Oakridge School in Arlington, First Baptist Academy in Dallas and All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth. In 2006, he joined the faculty at Arlington ISD’s Nichols Junior High School where he coached football, basketball, cross country, track and field, and taught P.E. and Special Education for 10 years. While at TCU, Chuck met the love of his life, Zabette Striegler. They married on May 23, 1998 and made their home in Arlington. Chuck was a member of Fielder Church in Arlington, TX, where he and his family were very active. Chuck loved spending time with his children, coaching their sports teams, playing video games with Colton, and attending Daddy Daughter Dances with Zoey. He had a knack for fantasy football and enjoyed golfing. He was happiest vacationing with his family and taking them to TCU home games. Chuck was a big man with an even bigger heart who showed his goodness through actions rather than words. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his abiding kindness, and the love he gave to his family and friends. He will be missed.
